Western australia's top tourist town
The historical town of Busselton in Western Australia is a great stopover on your holiday through the southern part of the state. Founded in the 1800s, many remnants of that time still exist, and will delight any visitor to this gorgeous coastal community.
The Busselton Jetty has been standing since 1853 and, though closed for ships in 1970, it has been beautifully restored and is a winner with tourists. Two kilometres in length, it is the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere and now boasts a stunning underwater observatory, taking you 8 metres below sea level.
Busselton heritage tours will take you back in time. Visit farmhouses, factories, a school and a courthouse from the 1800s, kept in the same condition. Or take the heritage trail from Augusta to Busselton to retrace the 100 km route taken by the settlers over 150 years ago. A walk to the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is a challenge well worth the effort.
But it is not only about the past. Busselton is a town that still has fun and with gorgeous beaches, good weather, places to visit – bush land, wineries and historical landmarks - you can't help but enjoy yourself.
Explore swimming beaches, wildflower tours and wildlife parks, or indulge in dolphin and whale watching, fishing, and horse riding trails. Get back to nature on your trip.
And for the kids, there is always something going on, with festivals, the leisure centre and, every kid's favourite, the Entertainment Park. Let them loose on waterslides and mini golf while you relax.
